Artist Statement

I came upon the free-form Poetics and designs of the Dada-ist movement over 30 years ago. Since then I’ve been combining words and images in my paintings and graphic work. I believe the words strengthen the design as well as clarify the intent of the image.

I have been a graphic artist for over 30 years. My work has appeared in a variety of formats such as, poster design, product labels, editorial illustrations, hand made books and limited edition prints. Since 1998 I’ve been making short experimental films using papercut illustrations, movable papier mache sculptures and painting effects created frame by frame. These “Folk Art Animation Films” have been screened in many independent film festivals. In addition, I’ve collaborated with my wife, Bea Ann (a fiber artist), in making Art Quilts and Clothing. I’m currently making mono prints using various techniques I’ve learned over the years such as silk screened prints, linocuts, acrylics and paper collage. Thematically, the majority of my work involves the intertwining of the natural and subconscious worlds, which I interpret visually by using bold colors with well defined graphics.
